New Paradigm in the Global Tuna Market: AP2HI Addresses Geopolitical & Sustainability Standards at Indo Fisheries 2026
Tangerang, June 17, 2026 – The global fisheries industry landscape is currently undergoing a tectonic shift. International consumers and markets no longer merely question the physical quality of products; they now demand total transparency from upstream to downstream.
This reality was the main highlight at the Indo Fisheries 2026 National Seminar, themed “Indonesia’s Fisheries Competitiveness: Between Global Standards & Geopolitical Interests,” organized by Minapoli and PT. Napindo Media Ashatama at the Nusantara International Convention Exhibition (NICE), Tangerang.
Representing the sustainable tuna fisheries sector, Janti Djuari, CEO of the Indonesian Pole & Line and Handline Fisheries Association (AP2HI), emphasized that the global premium market has now set new, non-negotiable standards.
“Consumers in the past only asked, ‘Is the fish fresh?’, but now that paradigm has shifted. The fundamental questions today are: “Where was this fish caught?”, ‘Is the fishing method environmentally friendly?’, and ‘What is the legality status and welfare of the fishers?’,” explained Janti before hundreds of fishery business actors and policymakers.
This statement aligns with the global dynamics presented by representatives of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) during the same forum. Currently, compliance with global standards spanning food safety, traceability, and carbon footprint has become a “new tariff” that exporters must pay to penetrate international markets.
How is AP2HI Responding to This Challenge?
Recognizing that demands for traceability, legality, and sustainability are the ultimate keys to future competitiveness, AP2HI has proactively implemented robust mitigation steps:
Global Standard Adoption: Guiding the supply chain of its members to achieve and maintain recognized international certifications, such as the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Fair Trade.
Grassroots Digitalization: Integrating digital data collection technologies (such as the E-Logbook application) down to the small-scale fisher level, ensuring every catch can be precisely traced to its origin.
Legality Strengthening: Assisting fishers in securing essential legal documents, such as the Small Vessel Pass (Pas Kecil) and the Fishers’ Competency Certificate (SKN), to completely eliminate the risk of IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) fishing practices.
Through strong synergy with the KKP and other key stakeholders, AP2HI is committed to ensuring that Indonesian Tuna is not only competitive in terms of volume but also stands as a global market leader in providing ethical, legal, and 100% sustainable seafood products.
