April 30, 2026

JAKARTA, April 24, 2026 – In a historic move for the national fisheries industry, the Indonesian Pole & Line and Handline Fisheries Association (AP2HI) officially signed a Cooperative Agreement (PKS) with the Agency for Quality Control and Supervision of Marine and Fishery Products (BPPMHKP) of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries on April 20, 2026. This strategic partnership marks a new milestone in driving broader certification compliance, enhancing product quality, and strengthening the competitiveness of Indonesian tuna in the international market.

Spanning a five-year period from 2026 to 2030 , this collaboration focuses on optimizing quality certification, specifically targeting fishing fleets that utilize environmentally friendly gear: pole & line (huhate) and handline (pancing ulur).

The scope of this agreement covers the acceleration of Good Fish Handling Practices (CPIB) Certification for vessels , Fish Distribution Practices Certification (SPDI) for suppliers and collectors , as well as innovative self-assessment programs specifically designed for vessels under 5 Gross Tonnage (GT) and micro-scale fish distributors.

Navigating Toward a Sustainable and Prosperous Future

Through comprehensive dissemination, capacity building, and mentoring programs stretching across key locations from Banda Aceh to Biak, the collaboration between AP2HI and BPPMHKP is expected to build a highly resilient fisheries ecosystem

This initiative perfectly aligns with the industry’s ongoing spirit of collaboration. It is highly anticipated that this heightened compliance with quality standards will directly increase the added value of Indonesian tuna products. Ultimately, as wider global market access opens up, the economic benefits of sustainable fisheries will be truly felt by the vanguard of our industry: the fishers and fisheries business actors throughout the archipelago.
