Abrizal Andrew Ang Elected AP2HI Chairman 2025–2030
Jakarta, June 19, 2025 – After more than a decade under the guidance of Bu Janti Djuari—the founding chair and driving force behind AP2HI the leadership of the Indonesian Pole & Line and Handline Fisheries Association (AP2HI) has officially changed hands. At the 10th AP2HI National Assembly held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, members voted Abrizal Andrew Ang to serve as Chairman for the 2025–2030 term.
The election was conducted openly and collegially under the oversight of Data Manager Alfian Mustopa and vote-tallier Prayoga Huda, Social Impact & Capacity Building Manager. In a closely contested race, Pak Abrizal who has served as AP2HI Treasurer since its founding in 2014 secured the trust of members to lead for the next five years.
Continuing a Pioneer’s Vision
Abrizal’s appointment marks the close of Bu Janti’s era, during which she transformed AP2HI from a shared vision into a nationally and internationally respected association championing sustainable tuna fisheries. Over her 11-year tenure, AP2HI emerged as a pioneer in responsible one-by-one fishing methods—pole & line and handline—that protect marine ecosystems while supporting small-scale fishers.
“AP2HI was born from a collective dream: for the world to recognize Indonesian fishers as responsible guardians of the sea. Today, I pass the baton to Pak Abrizal, whose dedication and vision will carry this mission forward,” Bu Janti said in an emotional farewell address.
Why Pak Abrizal Was Chosen?
More than a familiar face, Abrizal represents AP2HI’s bedrock. As Treasurer for ten years, he managed the association’s finances with impeccable integrity and forged strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders and government bodies. Known for his calm leadership and forward-looking approach, he has ensured AP2HI remains true to its core values of sustainability and collaboration.
Chairman’s Pledge: “Not to Redirect, but to Continue”
In his acceptance speech, Pak Abrizal paid homage to his predecessor and outlined his commitment:
“I do not aim to change our course, but to continue the journey. What Bu Janti and our members have built is both precise and meaningful. My role is to keep AP2HI a welcoming home for all advocates of sustainable fisheries. It is a great responsibility and a great honor.”
