Vessel Marking Activity

July 25, 2024

The Vessel Marking activity is an idea of AP2HI, which aims to distinguish vessels that have received the Fisheries Improvement Program (FIP) predicate from those that have not. Vessel marking uses Acrylic Barcode Stickers that contain vessel information such as vessel name, fishing gear, vessel license number (SIPI/TDKP/PBSPI/EBKP), and barcode.

The barcode can be scanned to automatically display detailed vessel information on the AP2HI portal. Detailed vessel information on the AP2HI portal also includes a Complaint feature. If a Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified vessel, which has more comprehensive standards than the FIP, commits fishing errors or violations, a complaint can be filed through the AP2HI portal. In addition to the Complaint feature, there is an Audit feature on the AP2HI portal that aims to assist field officers in conducting audits and facilitate the verification and processing of vessel data. Both of these features are the result of recent developments in the AP2HI portal system.

In addition to distinguishing vessels that have received the FIP/Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) predicate, the purpose of this Acrylic Barcode Sticker is also to make it easier for AP2HI field staff, fishermen and other laymen to find out information about the vessel. The detailed information for vessels that have been installed with Acrylic Barcode Stickers is believed to also provide benefits for fishermen who are fishing and who are randomly checked for the completeness of their licensing documents by supervisory officers. Supervisory officers can check by scanning the barcode on the acrylic.

Vessel Marking activities supported by the RLF Project started in early November 2023 in the Ambon (Maluku) region, with the marking of 93 vessels, 22 vessels in North Sulawesi, 12 vessels in North Maluku, and 55 vessels in East Nusa Tenggara. And this activity is still ongoing with the target of all ships that have registered with AP2HI and received the FIP predicate.
