AP2HI New Video: The story of Mr. Jefron, a tuna fisherman from Bitung City who also enlivened Bitung Tuna Festival 2021
Mr. Jefron Yafet Salindeho, one of the fishermen members of the Tarsius PM-22 fishing boat, told us about how his trip to catch yellowfin tuna in the period from August 17 to 21, where he had difficulty getting to the fishing ground, so it took 12 hours to travel, and required a day’s rest on Mayau Island due to bad weather.
Yellowfin tuna is one of the largest export commodities from Indonesia. More interestingly, the Yellowfin tuna from Bitung City, North Sulawesi, has fulfilled various aspects requirements by the world market, has obtained various certifications related to quality assurance, traceability and environmentally friendly, for example MSC Fishery. Many countries are already committed to buying only MSC products, such as EU countries and the United States. So, it is also important for our community to know and understand the benefits of buying fish labelled MSC.
With this prestigious certificate, international buyers can also check the fish they eat from what vessel, with what fishing gear, is caught in the what sea just by entering the code that are included with this fish.
Not long ago the TARSIUS PM-22, which was also a member vessel of AP2HI, PT. Nutrindo Fresfood Internasional, landed the fish in Bitung, at the same time Bitung City held Bitung Tuna Festival 2021 held virtually. Mr. Jefron’s fish became the main ingredient used for the Live Cooking Demo event in Jakarta by Mrs. Nur Asia Uno and Chef Norman Ismail on August 26, 2021.
The fish is directly sent to Jakarta with the best handling so that the condition of the fish remains fresh when cooked.
